Winter Corps Members
Winter Corps members serve from mid January through mid June at a full time rate. For winter 2019, the dates are:
- Mid January – June 26, 2020 for school based sites OR
- Mid January – August 14, 2020 for community based sites

Amount of Service: | At least 900 Hours (about 42.5 per week) Available to January Members serving through June 26

Stipend: | $8,400 (approximately $700 every two weeks before taxes) for 900 hours
OR $11,200 (approximately $700 every two weeks before taxes) for 1200 hours |
Education Award: | $3047.50 for 900 hours
OR $4,266.50 for 1200 hours |
Child Care Subsidy: | Available to eligible members. |
Medical Care: | Available to eligible members. |
Education Award
A member who successfully completes his/her term of service will receive an Education Award which can be used to pay for the costs of attending a qualified institution of higher education or to pay back qualified student loans.
Forbearance
Qualified student loans typically can be placed into forbearance if they are federally backed, in your name, and not in default.
Payment of Interest
All or a portion of the interest on student loans (placed in forbearance) that accrued during the term-of-service are paid if the member successfully completes the term-of-service.
Training
Members receive paid training throughout the term-of-service: conflict resolution, tutoring youth, mentoring youth, creating community service projects, etc.
Location of Service
Community-based organizations or schools in Allegheny County host sites.
Type of Service
AmeriCorps members provide tutoring and/or mentoring for youth. They also assist youth with developing and implementing a community service project.
Schedule
Schedules depend on the service site but are typically Monday through Friday during the day with evenings and weekends off.
Clearances
KEYS will conduct clearances (National Sex Offender Database, PA Child Abuse History, PA Criminal Record Check, and FBI) for candidates..
